SCF SCHOLARSHIPS RECIPIENTS

Last month, it was reported that SCF awarded 15 scholarships totaling $31,450. Over the 12 years of this program, $300,000 in scholarship assistance has been given to local young people and adults seeking higher education as a means to a better future.

Of the awarded scholarships, four went to individuals receiving a scholarship for the first time and the remainder were “reappliers” who are continuing their
education. Following is a brief description of each of these young people.

First-Time Recipients
(all attended Three Rivers School)

Dylan Mann – a graduate of La Pine High School and a track star there; he will be attending Southern Oregon University and wants to major in Health Education.

Makenzie Osborne – she is likewise a recent graduate of La Pine H.S. and will be attending the University of Idaho. She will be a pre-med major with an emphasis in bio-chemistry.

Natalie Walsh – Natalie is a Sunriver resident and has completed her A.A. degree at COCC in Forest Technology. This fall she will continue her bachelor’s degree
studies in Forestry at Oregon State University.

Allison Welch – she recently graduated from the Baker Academy and also received her A.A. degree from COCC. She will begin studies this fall at Abilene
Christian University majoring in Criminal Justice. Allison is the daughter of the senior pastor at the Community Bible Church of Sunriver.

Reappliers:

Lillianna Abanto – she will be a sophomore this fall, continuing her nursing preparation studies at Portland State University. During this coming school year,
Lillianna is planning to apply for entry into the nursing program at OHSU.

Bailey Baer – Bailey attended the Oregon State University the past three years but is transferring to the University of Washington-Tacoma this fall. She is planning to attend law school upon graduation. One special addition – she is getting married this summer!

Tayler Baer – younger sister of Bailey, Tayler attends the University of Oregon and is majoring in Animal Biology with the future plan to attend Veterinary School.

Breonna Lucas – she will be a sophomore this fall at Montana State University. She is majoring in Biological Engineering and is looking at the possibility o attending medical school in the future.

Victoria McDaniel – Victoria attended COCC for 2 years and this fall will be entering her 2nd year of the nursing program at Oregon Coast Community College in Newport.

Olivia O’Shaughnessy – a junior this fall, Olivia attends Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. She is double majoring in Psychology and Theology. She plans to attend graduate school majoring in Psychology and Counseling.

Adam Plant – Adam will be a junior this fall at Eastern Oregon University. He is majoring in Law Enforcement.

Austen Turbyne – he will begin his second year at COCC this fall. He is looking to major in Game Design. Austen and his family attended SCF.

Katie Voyles – Katie will be at junior this fall at the University of Oregon majoring in Biology/Genetics. Many of you may know her dad, Tye, who owns Mike’s Tires in the SR Business Park.

Ella Wydra – she will be a sophomore this fall at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Ella is majoring in Environmental Science.

We congratulate all our scholarship recipients, particularly for their perseverance during some challenging COVID years. A special thanks goes to all the members of our SCF Scholarship Committee who assisted in the important scholarship decisions needed to keep this program going – Jan Bull, Carole Elsbree, Chris Hamilton, Sharon Krueger, Mitzi Putney, and Susan Wells.
