UPCAP News – January 2025

For those new to our church or those who are a bit unclear about UPCAP’s mission and work, this will give you a sense of the important work UPCAP does through our church.

UPCAP receives its funds from a variety of sources that include personal donations, support from the SCF budget and the occasional large gift.  In addition, Visions of Sugar Plums proceeds are used for supporting community non-profit partners with their work.

In 2024 UPCAP distributed roughly $90,000.  And, you are right, that is a good amount of money.  Every penny received by UPCAP is given to non-profit organizations or individuals/families who demonstrate the need for assistance.  18 agencies received $46,000 from UPCAP last year, including $15,000 to LaPine/Sunriver Habitat for Humanity. Approximately 55 households (90-100 individuals) were assisted in various ways with another $28,000, including but not limited to utility assistance, rent, medical bills, gas, and school athletic fees. This does not include the money that is used to purchase winter gear, socks, and underwear for students at Three Rivers School, where UPCAP works with the FAN advocate to know the needs they have.

UPCAP supports Care and Share each month by purchasing the fresh fruit for the food baskets.

Those who receive the assistance are very grateful.  Here are some Thank You notes.

Shepherd’s House: Thank you, Sunriver Christian Fellowship, for your trusted and generous gift.  Deeply grateful for your partnership in this great work.  Happy New Year and God bless you.

Trillium Family Services: It means so much to have your support.  Thank you.

Bar J and J Youth Services (Grandma’s House): Thank you, SCF.  So many kids and families will be helped by your support.

Friends of the Children: We cannot thank you enough for your kind and on-going support.  Your contribution helped us exceed our end-of-year match goal, doubling the impact for the youth and families we serve. We are deeply touched and so thankful that you continue to believe in our mission and children.

Bethlehem Inn: Thank you (SCF) and UPCAP for your continued support since 2014.  Together we transform lives. (and from a Bethlehem Inn client: I am grateful for all the help and support during my time at BI.  Having a safe place to live saved my life.   Thank you.)

The mission of UPCAP is to assist as many as possible, providing a hand up.  So many struggle financially in South Deschutes County and are doing their best to pay their bills, feed and raise their children, and have some sort of life.  If you were at church on Sunday, 1/26 or listened to the livestream, you heard Pastor Kally talk about the early work of the church and how it grew so fast.  It was because these people helped others, giving freely of what they had, and risking persecution to do so.

If you would like to be a part of this work, please contact Jane Boubel, 541-593-2641 or JaneBoubel53@gmail.com.  UPCAP meets the second Thursday of the month at 9:30 at the church.
